Science Project: Moon Phases

We have been studying the Moon in depth now for a few weeks and my children are doing a project where they have to draw the Moon every day for 28 days so they can see it changing day by day. Here are some excellent websites that are useful concerning the Moon changing. The first link show the current phase of the Moon and also you can search any year of any month to see what the Moon looks like. It's just a brilliant site.

Is it permissible for Muslims to put their children in the schools of the non-Muslims?

QUESTION

Is it permissible for Muslims to put their children in the schools of the non-Muslims, knowing the many contradictions to the the Islaamic Sharee'ah that are found in their schools and the effects they have on our children? Specifically for:

(a) those who have a proper Islaamic school in their city, but it is expensive

(b) those who do not have a proper Islaamic school in their city, rather there are "Islaamic" schools run by people of innovation

(c) those who do not have any kind of Islaamic school whatsoever in their city

What is apparent to me, and Allaah knows best, is that it is not permissible under any circumstances for the Muslims to put their children in the schools of the non-Muslims. This is not permissible, expecially when these schools teach things that are foreign to the Deen, like the beliefs of the Christians or the Jews, or other impermissible things.

This is the case whether there is an Islaamic school in the city or not. No doubt, when one puts his children in the non-Muslims' school while there is an Islaamic school in the city, this is even more severely prohibited than the one who does so and does not have an Islaamic school in his city.

[ This was the end of the shaykh's answer on the cassette. When asked over the telephone about the issue of Muslims putting their children in the schools of the people of bid'ah, the shaykh requested that the following be added to his answer: ]

And it is not permissible for the Muslims to put their children into schools where innovation is being taught, or things that are in contradiction to the Sunnah. The scholars are preventing students of knowledge from reading the books of the innovators, so how can it be permissible for little children to study in schools where innovations are taught?! Especially when they are not able to distinguish between Sunnah andbid'ah, their hearts may become attached to innovations, and Allaah's Refuge is sought. So it is not permissible to put children in schools where innovation is taught.

Candle making at Cubs.

My children go to Cubs once a week for an hour and half, its like Scouts but for the younger children and they do all sorts of things there such as: playing football, hockey, making camp fires and camping trips, arts and crafts, swimming and lots more things. It gives them a chance not just to mix with other children but also to get out of the house, being a cub member encourages politeness and a sense of helping others in and around the community (such as helping the old people and various charities). So for this reason I think it is a good activity for my children.
I will pass the keyboard over now to them as they are going to write about how they made their candles.

First we melted the wax from a mix, then we poured it into the mould and let it set for twenty four hours.Then we decorated  it with materials and paint wax. Here is one half painted,full painted and glitter painted. written by Abdullah

We all had a mould with a hole at the bottom.

First we tied a piece of string to the middle of a tooth pick and pulled the string to the bottom so the tooth pick would be at the top of the mould and the piece of string would be pulled through the hole at the bottom. To hold the string at the bottom in place we put a piece of blue tack .

Then we melted some little white balls of wax and pored them into the mould .

After they had set for 24 hours we snipped the tooth pick off and took the candle out its mould .

I painted one of mine gold with stars and the other glittery.
